Type a product code and its variants. Get every combination at once, then see which of your sales channels would trim it — Amazon stops at 20 characters and does not tell you. Nothing to sign up for.
The short code you would recognise on a shelf label.
Comma separated. Leave a row empty to skip it. Accents, spaces and punctuation are dropped as you type, because eBay drops them too.
Will the longest one survive the trip?
A SKU is one string, and the shortest channel sets its length
You send the same code everywhere, so the tightest channel you sell on is the only one whose limit matters. Past it the code is cut rather than refused: the listing publishes, looks right, and quietly no longer matches the product it came from. These are the lengths our own exporters truncate at, not figures off a help page.

Fit the tightest channel
Budget for the shortest limit you sell against, not the most generous. Shopify keeps 255 characters and will happily take a code Amazon cuts at 20, and you will not hear about the difference from either of them.
General to specific
Product, then colour, then size. A sorted list groups itself that way, so everything you own in one style sits together in a spreadsheet without a filter.
One code, one product, everywhere
The same item needs the same SKU on every channel — that is what lets a sale in one place take a unit off the others. Two products sharing a code inside one shop is the other half of the rule, and it stops a sync rather than slowing it.
Skip the ambiguous characters
Capital O and zero, capital I and one, spaces before a character someone has to type. Somebody reads these off a label under bad light eventually.
What people ask before they commit to a numbering scheme
What is a good SKU format?
Product code, then one part per variant, joined by hyphens: TSHIRT-RED-L. Go from general to specific so a sorted list groups itself, keep it short enough for the tightest channel you sell on, and avoid characters that look alike — capital O against zero, capital I against one — because someone will read one off a label eventually.
How long can a SKU be?
It depends where you sell, and the shortest channel is the one that decides. Across the eleven QuickSync connects, Amazon keeps 20 characters and Etsy 32, while Shopify keeps 255 and WooCommerce 300. The table above is the full list. If you sell on Amazon, 20 is your budget however generous Shopify is.
What happens if a SKU is too long for a channel?
It is cut to fit rather than rejected, which is the part that catches people out. The listing still goes up and it looks fine, but the code on it is no longer the code you sent, so nothing matches it back and stock on that channel stops moving with the rest. Nothing errors. You find out from an oversell.
Can two products share a SKU?
Not inside one shop. QuickSync flags it as an issue and will not sync either of them until each has its own — a silent merge would be worse than a stopped sync. It is common on Etsy, where sellers reuse one code across several listings, and it is the first thing to fix before connecting a second shop.
Do my SKUs have to match across channels?
For QuickSync, yes: the SKU is how the same product is recognised in two places. Matching codes are what let one sale on Etsy take a unit off Shopify. If your channels already disagree you do not have to redo everything by hand — connect them and QuickSync will show you what it could and could not pair up.
Is this tool really free?
Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. It runs in your browser, nothing you type is sent anywhere, and you can close the tab with your CSV and never hear from us.
Codes are the easy half
Getting them onto every channel and keeping one stock count behind them is the other. QuickSync matches products by SKU across up to eight shops, and tells you which ones it could not pair.
