What eBay keeps on a sale, by category and store tier, with the per-order fee, Promoted Listings and the international fee on top, and then what the month costs on every store plan. Every rate was read from eBay’s own fee pages on 21 August 2026 and is re-checked automatically. Nothing to sign up for.
eBay takes its percentage on the total the buyer pays: item, shipping and handling, and sales tax. Tax is left out here because you rarely know it per sale; the true fee is higher by the tax rate times your FVF rate.
General campaigns: 2%–100% of the total sale, charged only when the ad led to the sale. 0 if you don’t promote.

Two tables, not one percentage
eBay publishes one table for sellers without a store (Starter stores pay it too) and a second for Basic and up, where both the rate and the threshold move. Most categories fall from 13.6% to 12.7% and the break from $7,500 to $2,500; electronics fall furthest. Four categories use whole-amount brackets, where the bracket the sale lands in sets the rate for all of it.

Five things worth checking on any page you compare this against
Shipping and tax are in the base
The percentage is charged on the total the buyer pays. A calculator that takes the item price alone understates a $40 sale with $5.99 shipping by 81¢ before tax is counted.
The per-order fee is 40¢, not 30
30¢ applies only to orders of $10 or less. Most calculators still quote the old flat 30¢, which is 10¢ a sale and $12 a month at 120 sales.
A store changes the threshold too
Basic+ rates are lower, and the point where the 2.35% rate starts drops from $7,500 to $2,500. On a $3,000 sale the store seller pays 12.7% on $2,500 and 2.35% on $500, not 12.7% on all of it.
Whole-amount brackets
Jewelry, handbags, bullion and $150+ athletic shoes use brackets where the rate applies to the entire sale. A $5,001 watch pays 9% on the whole amount; a $4,999 one pays 15%. Marginal maths gets both wrong.
The ad rate is the fee you chose
Promoted Listings General is charged on the total sale, and eBay’s suggested rate moves daily. At 8% it is bigger than the gap between any two store tiers; the calculator puts it on its own line so you can see it.

What sellers ask about eBay fees
How much does eBay take from a sale?
In most categories, 13.6% of the total the buyer pays (item, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order, or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less. On a $40 item with $5.99 shipping that is $6.65, about 14.5%. Books, movies and music are 15.3%; electronics with a Basic store drop to 9.35%; athletic shoes at $150 and over are a flat 8% with no per-order fee. There is no separate payment-processing fee.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes shipping and handling charged to the buyer and the sales tax eBay collects. Offering free shipping and raising the price changes nothing; the base is the same. The calculator above asks for shipping so the figure is right.
What is the eBay per-order fee?
$0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10.00, charged once per order rather than per item, on every plan including stores. The only exception is athletic shoes sold at $150 or more, where no per-order fee applies.
Is an eBay store worth it?
A Starter store ($7.95 a month) buys free listings and branding but the same fee rates as no store. Basic ($27.95) and up move you to the store table: most categories drop from 13.6% to 12.7% and electronics from 13.6% to 9.35%, so the break-even is a sales volume, not a feeling. On $5,000 a month of ordinary goods the Basic saving is about $45 against a $27.95 subscription; type your own numbers into the month table above.
What is the international fee?
1.65% of the total amount of the sale when the buyer’s registered address or delivery address is outside the US. It is not charged if you use eBay International Shipping, where eBay takes over once the parcel reaches its US hub.
How are Promoted Listings charged?
General campaigns charge the ad rate you chose, from 2% to 100%, on the total sale amount, and only when the item sells within 30 days of a click on the ad. At a 5% ad rate on a $45.99 sale that is $2.30 on top of the final value fee. Priority campaigns charge per click against a daily budget instead and are not modelled here.
Are these US fees only?
Yes. eBay prices every country site separately and the tables here are eBay.com’s. Applying them to eBay.co.uk or eBay.de would be wrong, so the calculator does not offer a country.
eBay is rarely the only place you sell
