A Few Checks Before You Sync
A few minutes of preparation can make your first sync much smoother.
QuickSync matches Shopify and Etsy products using the SKU first and the product title second. For the best results, make sure each product has the same SKU in both stores. If multiple Etsy listings use the same SKU, we flag them and leave them out until each listing has its own unique SKU.
Before the first sync, choose which store has the correct stock numbers. We use that store as the starting point and update the other store to match. For example, if Shopify shows 12 items and Etsy shows 9, you choose which number should be used.
Etsy supports two option types per listing. If your Shopify product uses size, colour, and material, you may need to combine them into two options. We show you which products need attention before anything is published.
Finally, take your time before turning sync on. Nothing changes in either store until you enable syncing. Once everything looks right, you can switch it on and let QuickSync handle the updates.
Why Etsy Uses Two Sync Timers
Etsy stock and orders update on different schedules.
Etsy does not send us updates automatically, so QuickSync checks for them. We check stock every two minutes and orders every five minutes. The timing depends on what happened in your Etsy shop.
If you change your stock quantity in Etsy, the update can reach your other store within two minutes. If someone buys an item on Etsy, it can take up to five minutes for us to find the order and update the other store. That five-minute window is the one to consider when setting safety stock.
Once we find the update, sending it to Shopify is very fast. Updating Shopify after an Etsy sale takes less than a second. The wait mostly comes from checking Etsy for the new information.
Before You Sync, Check Your SKUs
Duplicate SKUs are one of the most common reasons products cannot sync correctly.
If you use the same SKU for multiple listings, QuickSync cannot safely tell which product the code belongs to. This can happen when different colours share a code or when a copied listing keeps the original SKU.
We mark these listings as “Multiple same SKU” and leave them out of the sync until each one has a unique SKU. This helps prevent incorrect stock updates and overselling.
Fix duplicate SKUs before connecting for a cleaner first sync, or fix them later and they will start syncing once the codes are unique.
Three options, two slots
Etsy gives a listing two option types. Shopify gives a product three.
A t-shirt that’s size, colour and print on Shopify has nowhere to be all three things on Etsy. Two option types per listing is the ceiling, and it’s the one structural difference between these two shops that a sync can’t paper over — it isn’t a field length or a naming rule, it’s a product that doesn’t fit the shape.
So we stop instead of improvising. A product carrying more option groups than Etsy can hold isn’t exported at all, and every variant on it gets a red flag naming the reason, with the same note in its change log. Publishing two of your three would be worse than the wait: you’d have an Etsy listing selling the wrong thing and no sign of it.
The fix is a decision, not a data cleanup. Fold the least-used dimension into the listing itself — one Etsy listing per print, with size and colour as its two options — and the rest of the catalogue is untouched. Products with one or two option types go across as they are, and this only ever reaches the handful that were three-dimensional to begin with.
Shopify's Marketplace Doesn’t Support Etsy
Marketplace Connect supports eBay, Amazon, Walmart, and Target Plus, but Etsy is no longer supported.
For most Shopify integrations, it makes sense to check Shopify’s own Marketplace Connect app first. Etsy is different. Shopify has stopped accepting new Etsy connections through the app, and existing Etsy connections are no longer actively developed or supported.
This is important because older guides may still recommend Marketplace Connect for Etsy. Those guides may have been written when Etsy was supported, so following them today can lead to a setup that no longer works.
