Stock Amazon holds is left alone
We always send your count to Amazon, but we only take changes back for items you ship yourself. Anything Amazon stores and ships keeps its own count, which is Amazon’s to own.
Nothing publishes itself to Etsy or Amazon
Copying a listing from Etsy to Amazon (or the other way) always waits for you to look at it. Stock is the only thing that moves on its own, and only once you have turned it on.
Etsy allows two option types, and that decides your catalogue
If a product is size, colour and material somewhere else, something has to give before it reaches Etsy.
A listing on Etsy carries two option types at most. A product that lives elsewhere as size, colour and material cannot reach Etsy in that shape: either two of the three merge into one option, or the product becomes more than one listing. Pick which before you connect, because the shape of the Etsy listing is what the Amazon side then has to line up with, and changing it later means changing codes.
Splitting is where the second rule bites. Two listings in one Etsy shop carrying the same code are read as duplicates, and Etsy’s ‘Multiple same SKU’ flag keeps both of them out of sync until you fix it. It is not a warning you can shrug at, because those items genuinely are not being kept level. Break a three-option product into two listings and each one needs a code of its own.
Etsy is on a timer and Amazon truncates at twenty
Two constraints that belong to the platforms rather than to us.
Etsy is read on a schedule because it cannot report in: quantities on a two-minute loop, orders on a five-minute one. That is the honest shape of an Etsy sync and nothing outside Etsy can speed it up. Two minutes on stock is usually fine, though if you sell one-of-a-kind pieces the answer is care over your fastest lines rather than a setting somebody forgot to turn on.
Amazon is the tighter side on length: 20 characters against Etsy’s 32, so 20 governs the pair. Anything above that arrives at Amazon clipped, and a clipped code stops naming the item it came from. Nothing goes red, so the tell is a count that will not move rather than a message. Check the longest codes you have once, before the first sale rather than after an argument about stock.
Three more things to plan around. Your count always goes out to Amazon, but changes only come back for items you post yourself, because stock in an Amazon warehouse keeps its own figure on purpose. Amazon has no field for a tracking number, so that detail stays in QuickSync. And with marketplaces on both sides, neither can be asked to fulfil an order placed on the other.

How quickly does Amazon update after something sells on Etsy?
Within five minutes. Etsy has no way of telling us the moment a sale happens, so we check it on a short timer instead. Once we have the sale, correcting Amazon takes a second or two. The other direction is much quicker: Amazon tells us straight away. If either shop has an outage, we hold the update and retry until it goes through.
Why has my Etsy listing stopped syncing with Amazon?
Two causes come up most. If two listings in one Etsy shop carry the same code, Etsy marks them ‘Multiple same SKU’ and holds both out of sync until each has its own. The other cause is length: Amazon stops at 20 characters, so a longer code arrives clipped and no longer names the item it left.
How quickly does stock update between Etsy and Amazon?
