Correcting Shopify takes under a second once we have the sale. The order is in your packing list with the Lightspeed order number on it.

The other direction is the same: a sale on Shopify reaches Lightspeed just as quickly, because Shopify pushes it to us the moment it happens too.

Speed and limits

Before You Connect, Know These Limits

Most updates move between Shopify and Lightspeed in under a second. Here are the few things that work differently.

Shopify and Lightspeed sync fast

Both Shopify and Lightspeed tell us the moment something sells, so a sale in one is reflected in the other in under a second. There is no polling gap on this pair.

Tracking stays in QuickSync

Lightspeed records a sale as fulfilled but does not keep a carrier or tracking number against it. We mark it shipped and the number stays visible in QuickSync.

Products need your approval

Copying a listing from Shopify to Lightspeed (or the other way) always waits for you to look at it. Stock is the only thing that moves on its own, and only once you have turned it on.

The shipping gap

How Lightspeed Handles Shipping and Tracking

Before you route shipped orders through Lightspeed, there’s one tracking detail to know.

Once a Lightspeed order ships, QuickSync marks it as fulfilled. The order status updates correctly, but the carrier and tracking number stay in QuickSync because Lightspeed does not store them.

Your tracking number stays safe in QuickSync and on the Shopify order when applicable. The only catch is that Lightspeed does not show it on the sale, so your team will need to check QuickSync for tracking details.

We’re calling this out now so there are no surprises later. Lightspeed can record that an order shipped, but the tracking details stay outside the Lightspeed sale.

Before you connect

Make Sure Your SKUs Fit Lightspeed

Shopify allows SKUs up to 255 characters, but Lightspeed allows only 64. Since products match by SKU, the 64-character limit is the one to follow.

Any SKU longer than 64 characters can be cut off when it reaches Lightspeed, which can stop the product from matching correctly. Check your longest SKUs before turning on sync and shorten any that go over.

Speed

Sync Happens in Real Time

Shopify and Lightspeed send updates the moment they happen.

Neither side makes us wait. Shopify and Lightspeed tell us when something changes, so sales move between them without a polling delay. Some channels need to be checked every few minutes; this pair does not.

The difference shows when sales come in fast. If the same item sells online and in-store at nearly the same time, stock updates without waiting for a scheduled check.
