Shopify does not track inventory on a product until you turn it on. New variants often sit at quantity zero with Inventory not tracked — so a sale will not decrement stock, and QuickSync has nothing reliable to sync.
What “Inventory not tracked” means #
When tracking is off, Shopify ignores the quantity field for that variant. The admin may still show a number, but checkouts do not reduce it and oversell protection does not apply. Turn tracking on before you rely on any multichannel sync.
Turn tracking on for a product #
- In Shopify admin open Products and select the product.
- In the inventory section, enable Track quantity (wording varies slightly by Shopify admin version).
- Enter the on-hand quantity for each variant and location you use.
- Save. Confirm the variant no longer shows Inventory not tracked.
Why this matters for QuickSync #
QuickSync keeps Shopify stock in step with your other shops. Shopify tells QuickSync about inventory changes as they happen (webhook), and QuickSync writes corrected counts back. If Shopify is not tracking a variant, there is no quantity event worth syncing — fix tracking in Shopify first, then confirm the sync toggles on your Shopify connection.
