QuickSync keeps Clover and your online stores on one stock count. A sale on the register lowers the count in Shopify, Etsy and every other store you connect, and an online sale lowers it in Clover. Turn on product syncing, and product details flow from your main store to the others. Clover can be the main store, or one of the others.
Every sale Clover closes also comes into QuickSync as an order. Clover runs in three regions, and each connects on its own: Clover, Clover EU and Clover LA. Clover and Clover LA can be your packing store, taking online orders in for your staff to fill. Clover EU can’t.
Before you start
- Your region. Pick the one that matches the Clover site you sign in to: Clover for clover.com, Clover EU for eu.clover.com, and Clover LA for la.clover.com.
- A SKU on every item. We match items by SKU, not by barcode or name. Each SKU must be unique in Clover and 100 characters or fewer.
- Your plan. Stock syncing works on every plan. Product syncing and order syncing need Pro or above.
- One account. Connect Clover from inside the QuickSync account you already use. If you install QuickSync from the Clover App Market while you’re signed out, you get a second account.
Connect Clover
- In QuickSync, open Settings, then the Stores tab. On a brand-new account, click Connect your first store on the setup screen instead.
- Click the Add a store card.
- In Connect a store, click Clover, Clover EU or Clover LA. The click takes you straight to Clover. There’s no button to confirm.
- Sign in to Clover and approve QuickSync.
You’re back in QuickSync, and the new card says Connecting while we read the store: your business details, every item with its stock count, your item groups and your categories. We don’t read past orders. Connecting doesn’t change anything in Clover.
Each Clover merchant account is one store with one stock location. Two shops with their own Clover merchant IDs are two stores in QuickSync, and each counts toward your plan’s store limit. When the card says Connected, finish setup to choose the store with the right stock and your main store.
What syncs
Clover tells us about item and order changes as they happen. The exception is stock sold in Clover, which Clover doesn’t report. We read it after each order, on the timer in the table below. The timing for every app is in How QuickSync works.
| What | With Clover |
|---|---|
| Stock to Clover | Yes, in all three regions |
| Stock from Clover | Yes. A sale or a stock edit in Clover reaches your other stores. |
| Product details to Clover | Yes, Pro and above: name, SKU, barcode, price, cost, category and the tax switch. No photos or descriptions. |
| Clover as the main store | Yes, Pro and above. An item group comes in as one product with variants. |
| Orders from Clover | Yes, once Clover closes the order. Open orders wait. |
| Clover as the packing store | Clover and Clover LA: yes. Clover EU: no. |
| Tracking back | No, in either direction |
| How fast | As it happens, except stock from a sale: we read every sold item 30 minutes after each Clover order. We also recheck recent Clover orders every 4 hours while order syncing is on. |
What a Clover order brings
We take each Clover order with its lines, discounts, service charge and tips. Clover leaves tips out of its order total, so we read them from the payments. Clover’s orders carry no tax figure either. We work it out: the total, minus the items after discounts, minus the service charge.
Refunds come in as the amount paid back, manual credits included. We record them in QuickSync, and the copy in your packing store stays as it is. We ignore orders you delete in Clover. Cancellations and refunds has the rules for every store.
If QuickBooks is your packing store, a refunded Clover sale gets one refund receipt there for the amount refunded so far. In QuickBooks and Xero, a sale with no customer goes to a customer named after the store type, such as Clover Customer.
With order syncing on and another store packing, we copy every closed Clover sale into that store as an order. Only want stock to sync? Leave order syncing off. Clover sales still update your stock either way.
Clover as the packing store
Clover and Clover LA can take your online orders in. Each one arrives as a Clover order with its items, customer and charges, plus a payment under a tender called External Payment that records the sale. Clover needs an order type we can use for these orders. It doesn’t send tracking back. Use Clover as your packing store has the full detail.
Clover rules
Clover handles a few things its own way.
| Rule | What happens |
|---|---|
| SKU | Up to 100 characters. We cut longer SKUs when we write them, so keep yours at 100 or fewer. Each SKU must belong to one Clover item. |
| Item names | Up to 127 characters. We name each variant we create after its product and options, such as Leather tote - Sand. |
| Variants | An item group in Clover comes in as one product with variants. Products we send to Clover arrive as one item per variant, not as an item group. |
| Photos and descriptions | We don’t send them to Clover or read them from it |
| Categories | We put each item in one Clover category named after its product type in your main store, create that category if it’s missing, and take the item out of its other categories. Products with no type keep theirs. |
| Price | Up to 99,999.99. Every item we create or update gets a fixed price and we mark it available, so an item priced per unit or at the till becomes fixed-price. |
| Tax | On or off only. We don’t choose a Clover tax rate. Clover EU items always come in as not taxable. |
| Hidden items | An item you hide in Clover comes in as Archived. We hide Inactive and Archived products in Clover. Clover has no drafts, so a draft we send shows. |
| Zero stock | A variant set to stop selling at zero arrives with Clover’s autoManage switched on, so Clover makes it unavailable when it runs out. Counts can go negative, down to -9,999,999. |
| Locations | One per Clover merchant. It pairs by itself with a store that also has one location. Otherwise, connect it under Settings, Connect locations. |
How you pay
Where your account started decides who bills you.
- Through the Clover App Market, if installing QuickSync there created your account. Clover bills you, and picking a plan in QuickSync opens our page on the App Market. A plan you buy this way covers Clover plus one other store.
- To us directly, if you signed up on our website. Clover is then one of your stores and doesn’t bill you.
Clover and Clover EU installs from the App Market have no QuickSync trial: you pick a plan in Clover before you sync. Clover LA accounts from the App Market get a 14-day trial with Pro features for up to 2,500 items, and there’s no card to add. When it ends, they’re on Free, which syncs stock for up to 100 items, unless you’ve picked a plan. In Germany, the Netherlands and Austria, a free App Market subscription moves your account to paying us directly, on the same plans and trial as a website sign-up. You don’t need to reinstall.
Paying through the Clover App Market also lifts the order limits we set on app-store accounts. Square, WooCommerce, QuickBooks and Xero can be your packing store, and your Shopify orders get tracking back under the usual tracking rules.
Uninstalling can delete your account. To stop paying through the App Market, you’d uninstall QuickSync from your Clover account. If Clover created your QuickSync account, that deletes all of it: every store, product, order and login. Talk to support first if you’d like to keep it.
Reconnect or switch account
Clover’s sign-ins expire. We renew them in the background. If Clover stops accepting ours, the Clover card under Settings, Stores says Needs attention and shows a Reconnect button, and we email you. Nothing moves between Clover and your other stores until you reconnect.
- Open Settings, then Stores.
- On the Clover card, click Reconnect.
- In Connect a store, click the same Clover region as before.
- Sign in to Clover as the same merchant and approve QuickSync.
We find the store by its Clover merchant ID and save the new sign-in. Your matches and settings don’t change. For Clover and Clover EU, opening QuickSync from your Clover account reconnects it too. For Clover LA, reconnect from QuickSync.
Don’t disconnect Clover to fix a connection. Disconnecting removes the store and its matches from QuickSync. It turns product syncing off if Clover was your main store, and order syncing off if it was your packing store. With one store left, both go off. If your account began in the Shopify App Store, you can’t add Clover back yourself.
New merchant ID? We treat it as a new store. Connect it from the Add a store card, then disconnect the old one from its card’s menu. At your plan’s store limit, disconnect the old one first. The store your account came from has no Disconnect option, and uninstalling QuickSync from it deletes your QuickSync account.
Common questions
Why does Clover keep disconnecting?
Clover’s sign-ins expire, so we check them every 15 minutes for Clover and Clover EU, and daily for Clover LA, and renew any that have run out. We also refresh one whenever Clover rejects it. A disconnect means Clover stopped accepting our sign-in. You’ll see Needs attention on the Clover card and get an email, at most one a day per store. If a later try works, the card goes back to Connected by itself. If not, click Reconnect and approve QuickSync in Clover again.
Why didn’t a Clover sale update my Shopify stock?
A sale reaches your other stores about 30 minutes after Clover closes the order. We copy the count Clover holds. So first check that Clover’s own count went down after the sale. Then open the product on the Products page: if it isn’t matched, its SKU is missing or differs between the stores. On Overview, the sync activity list has an Inventory view, and searching it for the SKU shows each update, marked Synced or Failed. Also check that the Clover card doesn’t say Needs attention.
Why didn’t my new product show up in Clover?
Product syncing has to be on. That’s Pro or above. The product also needs a SKU that no other product shares in either store. We send it as one Clover item per variant, without photos or a description. While a fetch or a sync is running, we hold product changes until it ends. The product’s status on the Products page names anything else in the way.
What’s the difference between Clover, Clover EU and Clover LA?
They’re Clover’s three regional sites, and you connect the one you sign in to. Clover and Clover LA can be your packing store, but Clover EU can’t take orders in. We check Clover and Clover EU sign-ins every 15 minutes, and Clover LA’s daily. Clover EU items come in as not taxable. A Clover LA install from the App Market starts with a 14-day trial and no card.
Why do I have two QuickSync accounts?
Installing QuickSync from the Clover App Market while you’re signed out creates a new account for that Clover merchant, and installing from the Shopify App Store does the same for a Shopify store. To keep one account, connect Clover from Settings, Stores in the account you already use. Contact support before you uninstall either app: uninstalling from the store an account began with deletes that whole account.
Why can’t I find Clover in the store list?
Accounts that began with a QuickSync install from the Shopify App Store don’t see Clover, Clover EU, Clover LA, Square or Lightspeed under Connect a store. That’s a limit on the account, not on your Clover setup. Contact support and we’ll check what your account can connect. Don’t open a second account from the Clover App Market to get around it, because two accounts can’t sync with each other.
