Two option types on Etsy
Etsy allows two kinds of option per listing, so a product that is size, colour and material elsewhere has to fold down to two. We show you which products are affected before anything is published.
Nothing publishes itself to Square or Etsy
Copying a listing from Square to Etsy (or the other way) always waits for you to look at it. Stock is the only thing that moves on its own, and only once you have turned it on.
Your Square catalogue may not fit Etsy as it stands
Two Etsy rules decide the shape of the catalogue, and both are worth settling first.
Etsy allows two option types on a listing. Square will happily hold a product that varies by size, colour and material, and that product cannot cross to Etsy in the same shape: two of those have to be combined into one option, or the product has to become more than one listing. Neither is difficult, but it is a decision about your catalogue rather than a setting we can flip for you.
The second rule bites straight after the first. If you split a product across two Etsy listings and leave the same SKU on both, Etsy flags them as ‘Multiple same SKU’ and we keep sync off for those listings. That is a deliberate stop rather than a failure: with one SKU pointing at two listings there is no honest way to decide which count belongs where. Give each listing its own SKU and they start syncing.
Thirty-two characters, then a timer
Two platform limits that shape day-to-day use, plus one gap on the Square side.
Items pair by SKU, and Etsy is the shorter of the two at 32 characters against Square’s 80. A SKU that a Square till accepts without complaint can arrive at Etsy truncated, and a truncated SKU stops matching the item it came from. Nothing errors, so you notice when a count drifts rather than when it breaks. Sorting your catalogue by SKU length takes a minute and settles it.
Etsy cannot announce a sale to us, so we look on a schedule instead: orders every five minutes and stock every two. That is the window to plan around on the Etsy side, and no tool can shorten it from the outside. If you are selling the last of something at a market while the same listing is live on Etsy, that is exactly where a short window matters, and a small buffer on one-off pieces costs less than an apology.
One gap to know about: Square keeps no place for a tracking number, so we have nothing to write into. Post an order that started at the till and the tracking sits in QuickSync rather than on the Square sale. Most sales at a counter leave with the customer and never need one, so this only matters if you take orders in person for posting later.

How quickly does Square update after something sells on Etsy?
Within five minutes. Etsy has no way of telling us the moment a sale happens, so we check it on a short timer instead. Once we have the sale, correcting Square takes under a second. The other direction is much quicker: Square tells us straight away. If either shop has an outage, we hold the update and retry until it goes through.
Can I sync my Square inventory with my Etsy shop?
Yes, though not directly: the two do not talk to each other. QuickSync sits between them, matching items by SKU and holding one count, so a sale at the till lowers the Etsy listing. Etsy stops a code at 32 characters, so build to that, and make sure no two Etsy listings share one.
Why does Etsy say ‘Multiple same SKU’?
Because two listings in the same Etsy shop are carrying the same SKU. Sync stays off for those listings while that is true, since one SKU pointing at two listings gives no way to tell which count belongs to which. Give each listing its own SKU and they will sync from then on.
Do I have to re-list my Square products on Etsy?
No. We match your existing listings by SKU first, then by title, and hand you whatever we could not match. Can I charge a different price on Etsy?
Yes. Set a rule once for Etsy: a percentage, a fixed uplift, or a price you type yourself. We apply it whenever the price changes, and nothing forces Square and Etsy to the same number.
Does the tracking number go back to both shops?
Not to Square. Square has no way for us to send a tracking number back, so the shipping detail stays in QuickSync and in whichever shop the order came from.
Does an Etsy order get recreated on Square?
No. The order stays on Etsy. We pull it into your one QuickSync list next to your Square orders so you pack from one place, without creating a duplicate Square order for it.
What happens if a buyer cancels or I refund them on Square or Etsy?
The stock goes back. A cancellation or a refund puts the item back into your count and we send the corrected number to both Square and Etsy.
