Follow one Etsy sale

For sellers listing the same stock on Etsy and Amazon. Both cap SKUs hard (Amazon at 20 characters, Etsy at 32), so the product code that works here is short, and it has to be the same one on both sides.

What to know before you connect

Inventory limit

FBA inventory stays with Amazon

We always send your count to Amazon, but we only take changes back for items you ship yourself. Anything Amazon stores and ships for you (FBA) keeps its own count, which is Amazon's to own.

Manual control

Listings do not publish to Etsy or Amazon on their own

Copying a listing from Etsy to Amazon (or the other way) always waits for you to look at it. Stock is the only thing that moves on its own, and only once you have turned it on.

Etsy’s variation rules

Etsy allows two option types, and that decides your catalogue

If a product is size, colour and material somewhere else, something has to give before it reaches Etsy.

A listing on Etsy carries two option types at most. A product that lives elsewhere as size, colour and material cannot reach Etsy in that shape: either two of the three merge into one option, or the product becomes more than one listing. Pick which before you connect, because the shape of the Etsy listing is what the Amazon side then has to line up with, and changing it later means changing codes.

Splitting is where the second rule bites. Two listings in one Etsy shop carrying the same code are read as duplicates, and Etsy’s ‘Multiple same SKU’ flag keeps both of them out of sync until you fix it. It is not a warning you can shrug at, because those items genuinely are not being kept level. Break a three-option product into two listings and each one needs a code of its own.

Timing and length

Etsy is on a timer and Amazon truncates at twenty

Two constraints that belong to the platforms rather than to us.

Etsy is read on a schedule because it cannot report in: quantities on a two-minute loop, orders on a five-minute one. That is the honest shape of an Etsy sync and nothing outside Etsy can speed it up. Two minutes on stock is usually fine, though if you sell one-of-a-kind pieces the answer is care over your fastest lines rather than a setting somebody forgot to turn on.

Amazon is the tighter side on length: 20 characters against Etsy’s 32, so 20 governs the pair. Anything above that arrives at Amazon clipped, and a clipped code stops naming the item it came from. Nothing goes red, so the tell is a count that will not move rather than a message. Check the longest codes you have once, before the first sale rather than after an argument about stock.

Three more things to plan around. Your count always goes out to Amazon, but changes only come back for items you post yourself, because stock in an Amazon warehouse keeps its own figure on purpose. Amazon has no field for a tracking number, so that detail stays in QuickSync. And with marketplaces on both sides, neither can be asked to fulfil an order placed on the other.

Questions people ask about this pair

Does Etsy integrate with Amazon?

Yes, through QuickSync. Connect Etsy and Amazon, match products by SKU, and a sale on either side lowers the count on the other. Etsy has no way to tell us the moment something sells, so we check it on a timer: stock every two minutes, orders every five. Keeping a little safety stock on your best sellers is the honest way to cover that gap. We send stock to Amazon whatever the fulfilment method, but we only hear about Amazon-side changes for the items you ship yourself. Anything held and shipped by Amazon is left alone deliberately, because Amazon owns that count.

Why has my Etsy listing stopped syncing with Amazon?

Two causes come up most. If two listings in one Etsy shop carry the same code, Etsy marks them ‘Multiple same SKU’ and holds both out of sync until each has its own. The other cause is length: Amazon stops at 20 characters, so a longer code arrives clipped and no longer names the item it left.

How do I connect Etsy to Amazon?

You approve QuickSync from your Etsy account for the shop you want connected. You authorise QuickSync in Seller Central for the marketplaces you sell in. Then match products by SKU, choose which shop holds the true count on day one and turn the sync on. Keep SKUs within 20 characters, Amazon’s limit.

Do I have to re-list my Etsy products on Amazon?

No. We match your existing listings by SKU, and hand you whatever we could not match. If you do copy a listing across, watch Etsy: Etsy allows two kinds of option per listing, so a product that is size, colour and material elsewhere has to fold down to two. We show you which products are affected before anything is published.

Can I charge a different price on Amazon?

Yes. Set a rule once for Amazon: a percentage, a fixed uplift, or a price you type yourself. We apply it whenever the price changes, and nothing forces Etsy and Amazon to the same number.

Does the tracking number go back to both shops?

Not to Amazon. Amazon has no way for us to send a tracking number back.

Can I create an order on Amazon from a sale on Etsy?

No. Etsy and Amazon hand orders out and do not accept orders created elsewhere. We pull both into one packing list so you still work from one place; each order stays on the channel it came from.

What happens if a buyer cancels or I refund them on Etsy or Amazon?

A refund alone does not restock an item. When the originating platform reports a stock increase, QuickSync propagates the updated quantity between Etsy and Amazon.

Which plan do I need for Etsy and Amazon?

Lite covers Etsy and Amazon. Lite is $19 a month for two shops and holds 1,000 items, with up to eight connected integrations. You would move up a plan for catalogue size, and your bill goes up by another $19 if you connect a third shop.
