Say a mug sells on Etsy at 3:07 on a Sunday. Etsy tells nobody. Whatever links Etsy to your Shopify store finds out when it next looks; we look for orders every five minutes and for stock every two. So Shopify’s count drops by 3:12 at the latest, and the question for that mug is whether it could also sell on Shopify in those five minutes. The free route
Shopify’s own app dropped Etsy
Most advice on this search was written while Marketplace Connect covered Etsy. It doesn’t take new Etsy connections now.
On most Shopify pairs the first thing to check is Shopify’s own free app, Marketplace Connect, and we say so on those pages. Etsy is the exception. Shopify’s help page lists Amazon, eBay, Walmart and Target Plus, with a note that new connections to Etsy can’t be made through the app; merchants already selling on Etsy through it can carry on. The note is here. A guide recommending Marketplace Connect for Etsy was written before that changed, and following it costs you an afternoon finding out.
So on this pair the field is third-party apps, ours among them. What separates them is how each handles the two Etsy rules below, and whether they say what they do when a product doesn’t fit.

Two timers, not one
Etsy announces nothing. We check stock every two minutes and orders every five.
QuickSync checks Etsy stock every two minutes and orders every five. Those are check intervals, so queue processing and Etsy’s responses can add time. Shopify sends changes by webhook; QuickSync then sends supported stock updates to Etsy. Before relying on the connection for a fast-selling item, verify a controlled stock change in both shops.
For products that can sell in both shops before an update arrives, choose a stock buffer around your sales pace and the update times you observe. A scheduled check interval is one part of that delay; processing, retries and Etsy responses can add time.

One SKU per listing, two options per product
Etsy’s two rules. We stop rather than guess at either.
QuickSync matches Shopify and Etsy products by SKU. Give each variation a matching, unique SKU in both shops. A missing SKU prevents matching unless you enable automatic SKU creation; that setting doesn’t resolve duplicates. Two listings in one shop with the same SKU stay blocked until their codes are distinct. Check the matches before you click Start Syncing.

Start with two fictional connected stores: Demo Shopify and Demo Etsy.
Choose to keep stock updated and select Demo Shopify as the starting stock store.
Choose ongoing product updates from Demo Shopify, available on Pro or higher.
Review the product scope. In this small demo, all products are selected; adding missing products and creating missing SKUs are left off.
Choose order syncing and Demo Shopify as the fulfillment store. Order syncing requires Pro or higher.
Review the stores, stock, product and order choices. The recording stops before Start syncing; no live store is changed.
Choose one test variation you control with a matching unique SKU in Shopify and Etsy. Check Shopify Track quantity, the Etsy listing requirements and any stock buffer.
Select that item and review the source stock. Leave Export products off if both listings already exist. Start Syncing aligns the destination from the selected source.
After alignment, change the Shopify quantity from 5 to 4. With no buffer applied, check for 4 on the matching Etsy listing after processing; otherwise account for the configured buffer.
Check both store dashboards and QuickSync activity, and record the observed delay. Etsy stock checks run about every two minutes; this is a check interval, not an end-to-end guarantee.
Repeat a controlled stock change from Etsy back to Shopify. Inspect any SKU or listing warning before adding more products. Etsy order checks have a separate five-minute schedule.
This is a suggested test procedure, not a recorded customer result. Test only stock you control.
Etsy accepts at most two option groups per listing. For three source groups, QuickSync can combine the two with the fewest combinations into one Etsy option. The merged group must fit Etsy’s limits. If the combination can’t fit, reduce the options in your source store or leave that product out of the Etsy sync.
Choose the source store and location that hold the stock you want to use, review the SKU matches, then click Start Syncing. Etsy orders can go to your Shopify fulfillment store on Pro or higher. Tracking can return from Shopify only when Etsy grants the required access. Eligibility depends on your shipping origin, integration date and Etsy’s approved-provider rules. If Etsy restricts that access, mark the order shipped and enter tracking in Etsy.

Why won’t some of my Etsy listings sync?
Check the issue shown for the affected item. Duplicate SKUs in one shop are ambiguous and block matching; a missing SKU needs a value or automatic SKU creation. Etsy accepts two variation groups. QuickSync can combine some three-group products into two, but incompatible combinations or other listing requirements can still block export. Review the specific warning before changing the product.
How long can a SKU be for Shopify and Etsy?
For a new setup, use the same unique SKU of 32 characters or fewer in both stores. Check for duplicate codes before changing existing SKUs. If QuickSync reports an overlong SKU or an alias collision, review the affected items and proposed correction; do not assume that simply cutting every SKU to 32 characters preserves matching.
How are orders handled between Etsy and Shopify?
QuickSync brings orders from both shops into one list. On Pro or higher, Etsy orders can go to Shopify when it’s your fulfillment store. Tracking can return from Shopify only where Etsy permits it. Your shipping origin, integration date and Etsy’s approved-provider rules affect access. Where access is restricted, add tracking and mark the order shipped in Etsy.
Can I charge a different price on Etsy?
Yes, on Ultra or higher. Set a price-modification rule for Etsy in its store settings. Ongoing price updates follow the product master and the selected rule, so Shopify and Etsy can use different prices.
Does the tracking number go back to both shops?
Supported shipment updates return to the original order when the connected fulfillment store supplies them. Supported tracking details can return to the originating Shopify order. Etsy accepts updates only where it grants access for your shipping origin, integration date and approved-provider status. If access is restricted, add tracking and mark the order shipped in Etsy.
Does an Etsy order get recreated on Shopify?
Eligible Etsy orders can create a routed copy in Shopify when you choose it as your fulfillment store and enable order syncing on Pro or higher. The original stays in its source store. Unsupported directions, order state and your settings can prevent a copy in Shopify.
What happens if a buyer cancels or I refund them on Shopify or Etsy?
A refund alone does not restock an item. When the originating platform reports a stock increase, QuickSync propagates the updated quantity between Shopify and Etsy.
