What to know before you connect

Inventory limit

FBA inventory stays with Amazon

We always send your count to Amazon, but we only take changes back for items you ship yourself. Anything Amazon stores and ships for you (FBA) keeps its own count, which is Amazon's to own.

Manual control

Review export and draft settings for Shopify and Amazon

Connecting Shopify and Amazon imports their catalogues. A confirmed Sync Products export can create missing products. Ongoing product syncing follows your master store on Pro or higher. Use Create as drafts where supported when you want to review copies before publication.

Marketplace Connect

Shopify already gives you a free Amazon app

Start there. This is the point where a separate tool starts to earn its keep.

Marketplace Connect is Shopify’s free option for connecting your store to Amazon. Shopify builds it, it used to be called Codisto, and it runs from inside the Shopify admin. If Amazon is the only other place you sell, try it first. We would rather you did than paid us to find out the same thing.

It is built around Shopify: your listings, stock and orders live in the Shopify admin and Amazon hangs off it as a channel. That works until something which is not Shopify also holds stock: a Square till, an Etsy shop, a count in QuickBooks. Two channel apps plugged into Shopify have no way to tell each other anything.

One extra channel? Marketplace Connect is likely enough. Several places selling the same physical item? You need one count in the middle that belongs to none of them. That is what QuickSync is, and why we are not trying to be a cheaper Marketplace Connect.

Before you connect

Amazon cuts a SKU off at twenty characters

The tightest limit of any channel we support, and the one that quietly breaks matching.

Shopify holds a SKU of up to 255 characters. Amazon takes 20. The SKU is what identifies an item on both sides, so a truncated one stops matching what it came from. That is the most common reason a sync looks connected and still moves the wrong numbers.

WINTER-JACKET-NAVY-XL is 21 characters → Amazon truncates it to WINTER-JACKET-NAVY-X → the SKU no longer matches. We truncate rather than refuse to send, so nothing errors and nothing turns red: the item quietly stops pairing with itself and you find out when a count drifts.

Check your longest SKUs before you connect. Shortening a pattern once at the start costs far less than reconciling two counts later, and it is worth doing whichever tool you use: the 20-character limit is Amazon’s, not ours.

FBA and FBM

How stock sync works with FBA and FBM

FBM means you ship it. FBA means Amazon ships it. That difference decides which way stock moves.

We send your stock figure to Amazon whatever the fulfilment method, so a sale on Shopify lowers what Amazon shows either way. What changes is the direction coming back. For FBM items (the ones you pick and post yourself), we hear about Amazon-side changes and pass them to Shopify. For FBA items, which Amazon holds and ships, we leave the count alone on purpose.

That is deliberate rather than unfinished. Amazon owns the stock in its own warehouses and knows those shelves better than we do; writing our number over theirs would mean guessing at receipts, damages and returns that never pass through us.

QuickSync can return supported carrier and tracking details to eligible merchant-fulfilled Amazon orders. Amazon manages FBA shipments. Supported shipment updates return to the order they originated from, after the fulfillment store supplies them.

Questions people ask about this pair

How do I connect Shopify to Amazon?

You connect your shop from QuickSync and approve it in your Shopify admin. Shopify asks which permissions to grant and you can withdraw them from the Shopify side at any time. You authorise QuickSync in Seller Central for the marketplaces you sell in. Then match products by SKU, choose which shop holds the true count on day one and turn the sync on. Keep SKUs within 20 characters, Amazon’s limit.

Can I integrate Shopify with Amazon?

Yes, and there is more than one way. Shopify’s own Marketplace Connect app is free and links the two directly, which is the right answer if Amazon is the only other place you sell. QuickSync is for the case where a third or fourth place also holds the same stock, because then the count needs to live somewhere that belongs to none of them.

Can Amazon fulfill my Shopify orders?

Yes, through Amazon’s Multi-Channel Fulfillment, but that is Amazon’s service rather than ours. QuickSync does not pick, pack or ship anything. We keep the stock figure straight across your shops and pass orders into QuickSync; who puts the parcel together is a separate decision.

Why is my Shopify and Amazon inventory still not matching?

The usual cause is the SKU. Amazon truncates anything over 20 characters, so a longer Shopify SKU arrives shortened and no longer matches the item it came from. The second cause is fulfilment: stock that Amazon holds and ships keeps its own count, so those items are not meant to follow your Shopify figure.

Do I have to re-list my Shopify products on Amazon?

No. Existing Shopify and Amazon listings match by SKU. A separate Sync Products export can create missing products. Ongoing product updates require Pro or higher and a master store. Review the export scope and draft setting before confirming a write.

Can I charge a different price on Amazon?

Yes, on Ultra or higher. Set a price-modification rule for Amazon in its store settings. Ongoing price updates follow the product master and the selected rule, so Shopify and Amazon can use different prices.

Does the tracking number go back to both shops?

Supported shipment updates return to the original order when the connected fulfillment store supplies them. Supported tracking details can return to the originating Shopify order. QuickSync can confirm eligible merchant-fulfilled Amazon shipments with supported carrier and tracking details. Amazon manages FBA shipments.

Does an Amazon order get recreated on Shopify?

Eligible Amazon orders can create a routed copy in Shopify when you choose it as your fulfillment store and enable order syncing on Pro or higher. The original stays in its source store. Unsupported directions, order state and your settings can prevent a copy in Shopify.

What happens if a buyer cancels or I refund them on Shopify or Amazon?

A refund alone does not restock an item. When the originating platform reports a stock increase, QuickSync propagates the updated quantity between Shopify and Amazon.

Which plan do I need for Shopify and Amazon?

For Shopify and Amazon, Lite starts at $19/month for two stores and 1,000 syncing items and includes inventory syncing. Ongoing product updates and order syncing require Pro or higher; price modification requires Ultra or higher. Choose a plan for both your features and catalogue size. Extra stores are billed at the selected plan rate; see Pricing for current limits.
