Etsy allows two kinds of option per listing, so a product that is size, colour and material elsewhere has to fold down to two. We show you which products are affected before anything is published.
Nothing publishes itself to TikTok Shop or Etsy
Copying a listing from TikTok Shop to Etsy (or the other way) always waits for you to look at it. Stock is the only thing that moves on its own, and only once you have turned it on.
Etsy allows two option types and no more
A product that is size, colour and material has to lose one before it will fit.
Etsy puts a hard cap of two option types on a listing. If an item is size, colour and material on TikTok Shop, it cannot stay that way on Etsy, so something has to fold: combine two attributes into a single option, or split the product across separate listings. Neither route is wrong, but the choice is yours and it is much better made on purpose at the start than partway through a listing run.
Etsy has a second rule that catches people, and it follows from the first more often than you would expect. Give two listings in the same shop one shared SKU and Etsy flags them as ‘Multiple same SKU’, which keeps sync switched off for the pair until each has a code of its own. Splitting a three-attribute product across several Etsy listings is precisely the moment somebody reuses a code.
So plan the fold and the codes together. Decide which two options each Etsy listing carries, then give every listing a SKU of its own, and the two rules stop working against each other. That takes an afternoon up front. Finding out afterwards means going back through listings that have been live and unsynced for a fortnight and working out what sold from where.
Neither of these will ship for the other
Both sides are marketplaces, so the count is the part worth solving.
TikTok Shop and Etsy are both marketplaces, and neither can be told to fulfil an order that came from the other. There is no setting for it here or anywhere else, because it is a constraint the platforms impose rather than something a connection can arrange on your behalf. What remains is the stock figure, and that is where the real trouble starts when the same items sell in two places at once.
Etsy is the tighter side on SKUs as well, at 32 characters against TikTok Shop’s 50, so design to 32 and expect anything longer to be truncated on the way to Etsy and stop matching. Etsy is also checked on a timer, because it cannot tell us the moment something sells: we look every two minutes for stock and every five for orders. Hold a small buffer on fast movers and that window stops mattering.

How quickly does TikTok Shop update after something sells on Etsy?
Within five minutes. Etsy has no way of telling us the moment a sale happens, so we check it on a short timer instead. Once we have the sale, correcting TikTok Shop takes under a second. The other direction is much quicker: TikTok Shop tells us straight away. If either shop has an outage, we hold the update and retry until it goes through.
Can I sync my Etsy inventory with TikTok Shop?
Yes, but only with something sitting between the two, since neither shop can see the other’s catalogue.
